Dre can build consensus to get things done.

Dre’s priorities

  • In her personal life Dre is committed to fighting climate change with simple, yet effective actions like walking and riding public transit instead of driving, composting, and by making thoughtful food substitutions. As an elected official Dre has fought for renewable energy sources, expansion of public transit, curbside composting, and funding for green initiatives.

  • Addressing homelessness is one of my top priorities. Homelessness is not just a social issue, it also has a profound impact on the health, safety and security of individuals and the community as a whole. I will work to create affordable housing options, increase access to healthcare and mental health services, and provide job training and employment opportunities for those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. I will also work with community organizations and the private sector to develop innovative solutions. I am committed to making sure that every individual has a chance to lead a productive and fulfilling life, and ending homelessness is an important step towards that goal.

  • To increase affordable housing, various approaches can be taken, but one thing is clear. We need to build more and build faster. This means pushing to cut red tape. Once this simple step is done, other approaches include: increasing funding for affordable housing programs, implementing inclusionary zoning policies, and reforming tax policies to incentivize the development of affordable housing. Another way to increase affordable housing is through public-private partnerships, where the government partners with private developers to build and manage affordable housing units. Additionally, the conversion of existing buildings into affordable housing units can also help in increasing the overall supply of affordable housing. By taking these steps, the goal is to ensure that everyone has access to safe and affordable housing.

  • Diversity in government is important because it brings a wider range of ideas and solutions to the table, leading to better decision making and increased representation of all communities. Moreover, diversity in government helps to challenge biases and assumptions, and promotes a more thorough examination of issues, ultimately leading to more effective policies and better outcomes for everyone.

  • Building relationships with decision makers is key to making sure that their policies are representative of their constituents. Dre will help stakeholders build relationships by planning open to the public events with Councilmembers, organizing advocacy campaigns on community issues, and by bringing our City, County, and State, Elected Officials to speak and answer questions at our MCWNC meetings.

  • Every human being deserves stability. An important part of stability is ensuring people are safe from physical harm, crime, and natural disasters.

Dre will continue her history of working on issues of earthquake preparedness and building ties and partnerships with law enforcement to build a safe neighborhood that moves away from violent policing and towards community safety.
